GAS, WOOD OR ELECTRIC?
Deciding on what fireplace works best for you can be a tough task. Let us walk you through a few key factors to help make it easier.
Is this fireplace going into new construction or a renovation?
New construction allows you to make the decision between all three categories with less headaches since you are starting from scratch. You can incorporate a fireplace in every room if you really wanted to. Simply spec the unit into your drawings prior to building and ask us to provide you with a quote for install and purchase.
Gas fireplaces and gas stoves are great for those who do not want the hassle of cutting or buying real wood. You can still get a realistic looking fire with luxury media and keep your space warm as easy as a push of a button. There is very little maintenance required for a gas fireplace other than a manufacturer suggested annual fireplace tune up and safety inspection to ensure your gas appliance is working at its best. We can book this in for you, just give us a call or shoot us an email.
Wood burning fireplaces or free standing wood stoves come in a variety of sizes and styles. From modern, traditional and even ceiling suspended units that turn 360 degrees you have endless possibilities. Although you use real wood in these units, if they are efficient you can burn wood for hours to heat your space. Many units are eco-friendly and re-burn their emissions lowering your carbon footprint. You get the heat of the real fire, the relaxing sound of the crackling wood burning and the beautiful dancing flames. There is a bit more maintenance involved with a wood burning unit such as chimney sweeps, WETT inspections, ash pan cleaning, and refractory replacements but don’t let that scare you away because if you are burning your unit correctly you have less maintenance in the long run.
Electric fireplaces and stoves are the easiest fireplaces to install. Require no venting, and nearly all units can be run with a standard 110 outlet. Some units even come pre-finished with TV stands and pedestals. Electric fireplaces are usually less expensive to purchase than either Gas or Wood units, they are typically equipped with energy efficient LED lighting systems that create realistic flame patterns and can heat smaller rooms to take off the chilly edge you get in basements and winter months. To imagine the amount of heat you get from an electric fireplace think of how much heat your car would create on high, this is the same heat you would achieve with a electric fireplace.
